Today is the first day of classes for many university students across the United States. For me, as a college minister with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, this marks a season of intensity that will last for the whole month of September. The beginning of a new school year is a crucial time to meet new students. This is the time of year where they are most spiritually open and willing to check out new groups and experiences on campus.

For this reason, I will be taking a break from blogging and allocating the majority of my time to meeting new students and hosting events on campus to build momentum for our ministry. But rather than completely stopping writing for this time, I decided that each week I will post a prayer pertaining to this time of intensity and busyness. Feel free to use these as your own prayers. Even if you aren’t a college minister, I’m sure you can relate to times of increased busyness.

Today’s prayer is from the canticle of the morning prayer in Celtic Daily Prayer

Christ, as a light
illumine and guide me.
Christ, as a shield
overshadow me.
Christ under me;
Christ over me;
Christ beside me
on my left and my right.
This day be within and without me,
lowly and meek, yet all-powerful.
Be in the heart of each to whom I speak;
in the mouth of each who speaks unto me.
This day be within and without me,
lowly and meek, yet all-powerful.
Christ as a light;
Christ as a shield;
Christ beside me
on my left and my right.

May you be aware of God’s presence with you today and always!
